As a conscientious and fair employer, you will already be doing what you can to stick to the rules and regulations around employment.

 

This means you probably have a detailed employee handbook, policies on all areas of employment, and even procedures in place to help employees do things like lodge a grievance or book time off.

While this is absolutely the right way to work when you employ people, you could still be in breach of employment law.

 

How, you ask?

Well, employment law is constantly changing. It evolves as the world evolves and new legislation is introduced to help protect both you and your people.

So, if it’s been a while since you last updated your employee handbook, your policies, or your procedures, it’s possible that they are well out of date. This means, if an issue should arise, you’re putting your business at risk of breaking the law, putting your employees at risk of unfair treatment, and you even risk ending up in an employment tribunal.

It doesn’t have to be a big problem though.

Simply by regularly reviewing your policies, procedures and protocols, and keeping on top of changes to employment law, you should stay safe.

Oh, and you may also find that you need to add new policies where they didn’t exist before.
